My July 2024 Journey Through a Country in Between
Is It Safe to Visit Myanmar Right Now?
That’s a tough question—and the answer isn’t simple.
For me? Yes and no. I followed official guidelines, stayed in areas open and deemed safe for tourists, and kept away from conflict zones. I was cautious, aware, and respectful. With that mindset, my two weeks in Myanmar felt safe.
But you’ll feel the tension. Checkpoints are real. Questions from authorities are serious. This isn’t like traveling through Thailand or Vietnam. It’s a country in transition—layered, fragile, and still healing.
Where I Went
- Yangon: A city rough around the edges but full of life and contradictions.
- Bagan: Endless temples at sunrise—just as magical as you imagine.
- Kalaw: Cool mountain air, kind strangers, and one of the most grounding treks I’ve done.
- Inle Lake: Peaceful and surreal, a glimpse into a beautifully preserved way of life.
My First Birthday Away from Home
I spent my birthday quietly in Kalaw, in a little restaurant that used to be a cinema. The owner shared his story—about challenges, hopes, and dreams for a better future for his children.
That moment stayed with me—simple, honest, and a reminder of how lucky I am to move freely and chase opportunity.
What Myanmar Taught Me
This trip was more than sightseeing. It opened my eyes to how people live with uncertainty but still smile and carry on. It reminded me that travel isn’t always about comfort—it’s about perspective.
Stories Coming Soon
I have so much to share—unexpected kindness, quiet moments, unforgettable conversations. Myanmar left a mark, and I want to tell those stories honestly and with care.
Curious about what it’s really like to visit Myanmar now? I’m here to share everything I’ve learned.
